About Portfolio Calculate
Portfolio Calculate is a free, private website for building and understanding a dividend portfolio. You enter the stocks and ETFs you actually own — by real share count, not percentages — and instantly see your dividend income, yield, and how the portfolio would have performed against the market. There is no signup, no account, and nothing to install.
It was built for long-term and dividend investors who want a clear, honest picture of a portfolio they already hold, without the clutter, paywalls, or jargon of most finance sites.
Who's behind it
Portfolio Calculate is an independent project — built and run by a single investor, not a company, a bank, or a data vendor. It started from a simple frustration: the tools that do genuine portfolio analysis are either priced for institutions or buried behind signups and upsells, and the free ones often fake dividends with an assumed yield instead of using what companies actually paid. This is the tool I wanted for my own portfolio, made free for everyone else's.
Being independent is the point. There's nothing to sell you, no product being pushed, and no incentive to make a portfolio look better than it is. The numbers are meant to be honest — including the uncomfortable ones, like real drawdowns, worst years, and the low end of a projection.
What you can do with it
- Build by real shares. Add any US stock or ETF by the number of shares you own.
- See it as a pie. An interactive allocation pie updates as you type.
- Track dividend income. Annual and monthly income, plus portfolio yield.
- Company detail. Sector, market cap, P/E, payout ratio, beta and dividend-growth streak.
- Backtest vs. the S&P 500. Replay your portfolio against 15 years of real prices and dividends.
- Model real behaviour. Dividend reinvestment (DRIP), monthly contributions or withdrawals, and rebalancing.
- Risk, honestly. Real drawdowns, best and worst years, volatility, Sharpe and Sortino.
- Organise & compare. Group holdings, keep multiple portfolios, and compare them side by side.
- Override any price. Type a live quote to update value and yield on the spot.
- Project ahead. See where dividend income and value could grow over time.
How it works
Everything runs in your browser. Market data is sourced from Yahoo Finance; prices are delayed by about 15 minutes during market hours (and show the last close outside them), and you can type in your own price to override any holding. Yields and income are computed from actual dividend history, and the backtester uses real monthly closing prices and real dividend payments — not smoothed averages — so the drawdowns and worst years you see actually happened. Projections are Monte Carlo simulations of thousands of possible futures, shown as a probability range rather than a single guessed number.
Free to use, private by design
Portfolio Calculate is completely free. Your portfolios are saved only in your own browser, never uploaded to a server and never sold — there is nothing to sell, because we do not collect it. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
How we keep it free
The core tool is free forever and funded by unobtrusive ads — the same model as other free calculators. Your portfolio data is never part of that: it stays in your browser and is never collected or sold. A low-cost optional membership for power features may come later, but the core analysis will always be free.

Frequently asked questions
Is Portfolio Calculate really free?
Yes — it is free to use with no signup or account.
Do you store my portfolio?
Only in your own browser, so it is there when you return. It is never uploaded or shared. Only the ticker you search is sent to fetch market data.
How accurate is the backtest?
It uses real monthly closing prices and actual dividend payments, with optional reinvestment, contributions and rebalancing. Treat results as a faithful approximation of the past, not a forecast.
Is this investment advice?
No. It is an educational tool. See the disclaimer above and always consult a licensed professional.
